His Name is Alive
Local 506–It’s hard to offer original insight into His Name is Alive, the everything’s-fair-game brainchild of Michigan’s William Defever since the early ’90s. But Defever is, simply put, as divisive as any sonic auteur of the last decade, an alchemist who has teased out every nuance of a pop song through alternating subtletly (notice the careful synthesizer tone-tampers on his latest, Detrola) and full-fledged force (masterpiece Mouth by Mouth). This is the band’s first headlining tour in about a decade, and they promise all of this: “Sing-alongs, storytelling, cloud amps, the ‘HNIA-POD,’ an iPod that contains over one thousand HNIA songs (every LP, CD, CDR, TAPE, EP, 7″ and compilation track), and homemade electric thumb pianos.” Nomo and Henry Sparow open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8-10.–Grayson Currin

Dr. Bart Ehrman
Quail Ridge Books & Music–UNC-Chapel Hill professor Dr. Bart Ehrman begins a busy tour of the Triangle with a stop in this Raleigh shop to read from his new book, Peter, Paul & Mary Magdalene: The Followers of Jesus in History and Legend. The follow-up to his Da Vinci Code tackling, this book explores the veracity of the tales often told about three of Jesus’ most recognizable followers.
