If you’re looking for a nice place to take a blanket, tune out the world and tune in to some great music, you’ve got two opportunities this week, starting with free music on the lawn at Weaver Street in downtown Carrboro by Jonathan Byrd, a local award-winning folkster with one of the warmest tones around. Byrd & Friends start things up at 6 p.m. Thursday. Come Sunday, the sounds move farther south as the Two Dollar Pistols take Scott McCall’s lonesome guitar and John Howie Jr.’s husky baritone out to the Southern Village Green in Chapel Hill to remind folks there what real country music sounds like. Plenty of hurt, heartache and misery, plus whiskey and weeping–all in a pleasant, New Urbanist setting. The show starts at 5 p.m. and $5 gets you in.
