Raleigh-native David Sedaris made his debut on NPR’s Morning Edition with “SantaLand Diaries,” a postmodern holiday classic that tells in surreal and hilarious detail his experiences as a Christmas elf at Macy’s. “My name is Crumpet,” he announces at one point in the story. “We were allowed to choose our own names and given permission to change them according to our outlook on the snowy world.” And Crumpet’s outlook has proven so irresistible to audiences that four years ago Joe Mantello adapted the essay to the stage for an off-Broadway production of the same name. The SantaLand Diaries has its debut performance this week in the Triangle directed by and starring Eric Woodall (pictured). Originally from Benson, N.C., Woodall has spent the past 12 years as an actor and director on Broadway and television, with occasional gigs back in North Carolina.
