Spring is in the air and starting this week so are pop-ups, Texas Leaguers and the occasional dinger. Wednesday, April 14 is opening night for the Durham Bulls . They’re facing down the dreaded Toledo Mud Hens. First 5,000 through the gates at Durham Bulls Athletic Park get a free refrigerator magnet with the team schedule. Crisp spring weather, comfortable seats, ballpark food, a fuzzy, anthropomorphic bull with a T-shirt gun, cheesy organ music and grown men spitting with abandon for nine solid innings–you know a better way to kill three hours? Gates open at 6 p.m. The game starts at 7 p.m.
FYI: The Carolina Mudcats’ opening night is Friday, April 16 against the Birmingham Barons at Five County Stadium. It’s also the first Friday fireworks night of the season.
