In 1992, an obscure writer named David Sedaris became famous with his scabrous account of working as an elf at Macy’s during the Christmas season. Fourteen years later, The Santaland Diaries seem poised to join the holiday canon, right up there with A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker and “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” One-time local actor Joe Brack returns to town for the Joe Mantello stage adaptation, which concludes this week at Common Ground Theatre in Durham with shows from Dec. 20-23 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $14, $12 for students and seniors, and half price on Wednesday and Thursday.
