Moore SquareAs it approaches its third decade, Artsplosure remains one of Raleigh’s top events for showcasing the arts. The 29th annual festival, which runs at Moore Square from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, features more than 170 juried visual artists, two stages of performers and many events. The music lineup is particularly impressive, featuring such nationally-recognized artists as Janiva Magness and the John Brown Quintet.
Parents can look at artwork from students at local middle and high schools at Marbles Kids Museum or the museum’s “Kids Rock Artsplosure,” which features both kid-friendly artists and such activities as letting kids design their own CD covers. There’s also the kid-themed Kidsplosure, featuring a variety of environmentally-educational activities, such as the sure-to-be-messy “Pocket-sized Piece of Earth.” The Marbles events run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
If that’s not enough, there are pieces from artists in almost every medium imaginable, ranging from photography to jewelry to ceramics. Some of these pieces will be featured at the Pour House for its second annual Insplosure event, offering attendees the chance to both observe local artists and get a cold beer.
