CAT’S CRADLE–To understand longtime central Carolina heroes Arrogance, seek out their 5’11” Record, released on CD in 2002. It’s not just the songs that paint a vivid picture of the bandalthough there’s end-to-end great stuff here, including “Praying Mantis,” “Southside Girl,” “Talk to Me” and others that Yankees like me didn’t hear until they surfaced on Don Dixon’s solo albums. Nope, you also have to read the liner notes, specifically the song-by-song commentary. This is a group of guys who can finish each others’ sentences and who love to hear each other play. Opening are Adult Film Makers and another returning hero, Parthenon Huxley. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 the day of the show. –Rick Cornell

FOREST THEATER–Theatrical enfants terribles Noah Putterman and Lucius Robertson’s second summer endeavor for Single Shot Theatre puts a different spin or two on Shakespeare’s play about murder and political spin. First, they place the audience on the Forest Theater stage, and use the terraced stone and earth mezzanine as the production’s set. Then they merge different times and stylescoherently, we hope. The show’s at 7:30 p.m. (on Thursday and Friday as well). If you want to find out if the evil that men do lives after them, it’ll cost you $8 (students) or $10 (adults). –Byron Woods

400 MORRIS STREET–Ditch the weekend trip to the mall and go support the little man instead at this open-air market featuring the handiwork of Durham’s finest craftspeople. Vendor offerings range from handcrafted jewelry, fantasy art, organic body care, pottery and photography to woodwork and stained-glass creations. The artisans are affable, so feel free to ask questions or participate in a handy DIY lesson on knitting or the healing arts. Durham resident Shawn Deena provides groove-worthy tunes to shop to.
