MIDTOWN DICKENS CD RELEASE
305 SOUTHPerhaps the band that best captures the upstart energy of Durham’s music scene right now, there’s nothing perfect about Midtown Dickens except everything: Kym Register and Catherine Edgerton (an Indy contributor) make an alleged anti-folk aesthetic glow, writing great songs and laying them out nice and simple. Their debut, Oh Yell!, is a charming, sprawling contender for summer-soundtrack status. The 16-band bill starts at 2 p.m. It’s the party of the year, featuring Kimya Dawson, Bowerbirds, Cantwell, Gomez & Jordan and more. Cover charge is $5-$10. Grayson Currin

HAW RIVER FESTIVAL
OLD BYNUM BRIDGEThe Haw River will be the ever-moving accompaniment to the annual Haw River Festival. Filled with music, art, food and a slew of kid (or adult!) activities, such as chalk drawing on the bridge and catching critters in the river, there also will be a canoe raffle and a silent art auction. For info, visit www.hawriver.org or call 542-5790. Megan Stein

54° 40′ OR FIGHT! PARTY
BICKETT GALLERYThe guitar-pop anthems of Schooner have been a staple of Bickett since the start. Ironic, then, that the group’s last show at the Five Points space is a celebration with Alina Simone and Paper Airplanes, two acts on Schooner’s new label, 54° 40′ or Fight! Show starts at 9 p.m. Grayson Currin
