In December 2008, activists and organizers from the southeastern United States and beyond gathered in Durham, N.C., for the seventh biannual Southeast Human Rights Organizers Conference, better known as SHROC. Independent Voices producers covered the event, which brought the South’s struggles out of a civil rights mindset and into a broader human rights framework.
