Rock 4 Pets
Koka Booth AmphitheatreLast year, Wake County shelters took in 17,500 homeless pets, 56 percent of which were ultimately euthanized. In hopes of reducing that, the county animal shelter presents this afternoon of free music and love (of the canine and feline variety, that is). The inaugural Rock 4 Pets event runs from noon to 5 p.m. and features five bands: Rootzie, The Loners, The Hevy Pets, Arielle Bryant and Bomb Sniffin’ Dawgs. The Wake County Animal Care, Control and Adoption Center hosts, while dozens of other rescue groups, pet-related organizations, trainers and veterinarians offer info about adopting a new friend, low-cost spay/ neuter programs, rabies clinics and pet behavior. Donations are welcome but not required. Music- and animal-lovers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Picnics are permitted; food, drinks and $5 T-shirts will also be available for purchase. Jennifer Strom
