Pittsboro
Tamera Mulanix and Rita Spina
Carolina BreweryChatham County’s artists of the unwanted, Tamera Mulanix and Rita Spina aren’t afraid to dig through construction pits, scrap metal wastelands or rural roads to find that perfect piece of moldable metal or natural fiber to add to their excellent sculptures and designs. Their exhibit Something Borrowed, Something New has been turning heads at Pittsboro’s staple brew pub, the Carolina Brewery, since early August as bar patrons have witnessed the beauty of reformulated “junque” (the artists reworking of our commonplace “junk”). The designs, a series of sculptures and multimedia compositions, work within the concept of reborn beauty, blending organic and man-made materials into abstract ideas and art forms. Stop by this afternoon to grab a brewsky, check out the art and chat with the artists from 4 to 6 p.m. Kathy Justice
