SUPERMAN RETURNS

Carmike Cinemas–Square of jaw and righteous of purpose, the only son of a divine extraterrestrial being makes a return to an America that has been grievously injured in his absence. Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, The X-Men) handles the dircctorial chores in what we hear is a triumphant return for the Man of Steel in Superman Returns. Playing everywhere. –David Fellerath

THE PROCUSSIONS, ACEYALONE

Cat’s Cradle–Though 5 Sparrows for 2 Cents isn’t an underground revelation, the debut from Los Angeles-via-Colorado Springs hip-hop trio The Procussions does breathe some fresh air back into the very Rawkus pantheon that funded it. Imagine a Talib Kweli emcee spitting heady rhymes above a smaller Jurassic 5 crew mentality, indigenous reggaeton and Spanish embellishments permeating a heavy boom-bap blast. Ugly Duckling’s tales of meat shakes and opening act syndrome are still funny, and Chocolate Industry’s Diverse is responsible for one of the best genre-busting verses ever (see Prefuse 73’s “Plastic”). Too bad headliner Aceyalone has become an ironic cliché of himself, like an artificially built, sanitized polymer version of hip hop. $14-$16 gets you in at 9:30 p.m. –Grayson Currin
