Pilobolus
Durham Performing Arts CenterKnown for mixing athleticism with aesthetics, Pilobolus impressed mainstream audiences when they performed at the 2007 Academy Awards. Behind a white translucent screen, they twisted and molded their bodies to form the Oscar statue, the penguins from Happy Feet and the bus from Little Miss Sunshine. Perennial favorites at American Dance Festival, they will world-premiere two works: Redline by Jonathan Wolken and 2b by Israeli choreographers Avshalom Pollak and Inbal Pinto. Other pieces from their repertoireRushes, Ocellus and Walklyndonwill round out the night. Goodnight Everything
Golden Belt ArtsThe tagline for Goodnight Everything is as follows: “Three guys blow up the world. Hilarity ensues.” Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern’s world premiere production tells the touching story of three extremists who bring about the apocalypse. The story should sound familiar: The production takes inspiration from Lawrence Wright’s The Looming Tower, his book about the three men most responsible for Sept. 11: Egyptian religious scholar Sayyid Qutb and al-Qaeda masterminds Ayman al-Zawahiri and you-know-who. Rus Hames directs the original script by local playwright John Fidel Justice (The Two Sams). The production runs July 9-11 and July 16-18 at Building 2 of Golden Belt.
