The Beast, Inflowential, Blount Harvey

The PinhookThis fantastic bill unites a trio of the state’s finest hip-hop bands. Durham quartet The Beast invigorates political emcee Pierce Freelon’s effortless, intelligent lyricism with an upbeat jazz feel. Built around rubbery bass grooves and the beatbox talents of A-did, Inflowential favors partying over politics, though the rhymes of ever-busy MCs Tab-One and Charlie Smartstwo-thirds of up-and-coming Raleigh crew Kooley Highare as conscious as they are clever, fueled by equal parts schooling and streets. Greenville’s Blount Harvey splits the difference with heady head-nodders scored by soul and scratching. The show starts at 10 p.m., with a $2 cover for nonmembers. Spencer Griffith
