Duke University–There are very few names in world cinema that inspire hushed reverence among the cognoscenti, but Hou Hsiao-hsien’s is one of them. This important Taiwanese director’s films are minimalist to the point of obliterating the distinction between image and reality. His latest, Three Times, tells three separate love stories set in 1911, 1966 and 2005 and starring the same actors. It shows in Richard White at 8 p.m. for free. –David Fellerath
