Play Four Festival

The Artscenter–In recent years, UNC’s Performance Studies program has made an increasing impact on regional theater: They brought StreetSigns Center to North Carolina, and mentored Wordshed Productions, a standout among local professional companies and the premier student-run theater in this area. In short, a new plays festival with their endorsement has something going for it. The Play Four Festival closes this weekend with two programs of staged readings over four nights. Rob Hamilton’s adaptation of Dai Sijie’s bestselling novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, runs Thursday and Saturday at 8 p.m., while Chris Chiron’s new comedy, A Hamlet Story, plays Friday at 8 and Sunday at 3. Tickets are $10 per evening, $8 for students; $15 buys a pass for all shows. Visit www.artscenterlive.org for more details, and call 929-2787 for reservations. –Byron Woods
