CHAPEL HILL
CAROLINA JAZZ FESTIVAL
Various venuesThe Carolina Jazz Festival officially started last week with a performance by UNC’s jazz combos, but here’s where things get hot: At Memorial Hall at 7:30 p.m., the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra takes things back to the Kansas City of Bird Parker, Lester Young and Count Basie, as they lead a 1930s KC jam with guests Terri Lyne Carrington, Ron Westray and Steve Wilson. The vamps continue into the night at Tallula’s on Franklin Street. Those late-night sessions continue Friday and Saturday at Top of the Hill and West End Wine Bar, respectively.
