A Chorus Line
Memorial Auditorium, Progress Energy CenterThe show that set the record for longest run on Broadway (until Cats) and inspired roughly a million bad parodies of “One” heads to Progress Energy Center as part of a touring shownot to be confused with the student edition that played there last September. Winner of roughly every imaginable theater-based award, A Chorus Line is the tale of 17 dancers narrating their hopes, dreams and fears as they audition for parts in the chorus of a Broadway show. The plot was originally constructed from a workshop featuring a number of Broadway dancers, many of whom appeared in the original cast (and sued for a share of the profits later). For those who live far from the Great White Way, A Chorus Line remains the ultimate theater-about-theater, exploring the harsh realities of show business and the power that comes from pursuing a dream. Still, I’d like to get “One” out of my head. That thing sticks. For more information, visit www.broadwayseriessouth.com (warning: it plays “One” as the site loads). Zack Smith
