Public Nudity Songwriters Night
Broad Street CafeGreg Humphreys leads the soulful rock outfit Hobex and, occasionally, still joins up with his ’90s college circuit stars in Dillon Fence. But solo, he travels upstream to the elemental moments that have long charged his big bands’ power. In this vein, Humphreys hosts Public Nudity Songwriters Night, which, as its name implies, strips music down to its basics. This second installment features Michael Holland and Kenny Roby. Holland, formerly of Jennyanykind, shines when he takes on the mantle of storyteller. Whether lighthearted or somber, his songs seem like newly discovered threads of oral history. Roby’s tunes rock harder while focusing on the more personal, like a Southern Springsteen. Establishing himself in the ’90s with the alt-country Six String Drag, Roby now works between ruminative folk and agile pop. The free night begins at 8 p.m. See www.thebroadstreetcafe.com.
