A Christmas Carol
Memorial Auditorium, Progress Energy CenterIt’s hard to fathom, but Ira David Wood III has been playing Scrooge in A Christmas Carol for 34 years. What began in 1974 under surely more modest conditions has grown into a Triangle institution. This year, Theatre in the Park proudly opens its production in Durham’s brand-new performing arts center (Dec. 5-7), and tonight the show returns to its traditional home in Memorial Auditorium for the first performance of a run that will go through Dec. 17. And, if you think you’ve seen it before, be advised that Wood is known for inserting fresh topical references into the show. Considering all that’s happened this yearincluding an economic crisis that could return us to Dickensian despairthis would be a good year for a return visit.
