Dreamgirls
N.C. TheatreThe Broadway show turned blockbuster Dreamgirls looked great on the silver screen, but even Jamie Foxx’s and Beyonce Knowles’ charismatic acting can’t pack the live-size punch of the real thing. Still, reviving Jennifer Hudson’s earth-shattering croon is a magnificent feat that not just any singer can accomplish. Luckily, Quiana Parler, a seasoned singer who has performed with the likes of Keith Sweat and American Idols Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson, will be amping up the volume one more time as the forgotten star Effie. Look for an interview with Parler online at www.indyweekblogs.com/scan. Meanwhile, check out the glamorous gowns and showstoppers at 8 p.m. for $26-$76. The show runs Jan. 12-20.
