Kings–An Internet film fan writes of a certain movie, “I do admit that this is a film that I had to see six times to get. Every time I watch it I learn something new.” As it happens, the arcane film in question is playing at Kings tonight. Three guesses: Is it a) Un Chien Andalou, b) Last Year at Marienbad or c) The Big Lebowski? If you guessed “c”, you are so right, dude. The bar will have drink specials. A rug giveaway is a possibility, and costumes are encouraged. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Tilly & The Wall, Devotchka
Cat’s Cradle–Superficial descriptions can be deceiving. Tilly & the Wall, for instance, are an Omaha, Neb. band with two records out on Conor Oberst’s Team Love, writing chugging, baroque pop songs with big boy-girl harmonies and percussion via shakers and a living, breathing tap dancer. Sounds fun, but–given that the band will play what sounds like 12 minor variation on the same song during one set–it’s a gimmicky snoozefest. DeVotchKa, however, combines Romani, Greek and Slavic folk musics with the rhythms of South America, applying it to mournful ballads for the indie rock set. Sounds stuffy, sure, but Nick Urata’s sense for austere compositions and overwhelming arrangements transcend space, place and time, sweeping the listener away like puppy love to infinity. Do not miss this set. Tragi-funny folkman David Dondero opens at 8:45 p.m. Tickets are $10. –Grayson Currin
