Wilmington
Cucalorus Film Festival
Various VenuesA paradoxical effect of an imploding economy is that gas prices are very, very low. In other words: road trip! We recommend that film-lovers looking for a cheap getaway consider the 100-mile jaunt down to Wilmington’s Cucalorus fest. This year’s lineup looks diverse and cosmopolitan, with 157 films from 37 countries set to screen (out of 1,083 films submitted). This writer plans to be first in line for the Saturday night screening of Wendy and Lucy, the latest film from Old Joy director Kelly Reichardt, who will be in attendance. Among the local filmmakers you can count on seeing there, along with their work, are Matt Hedt, Nicole Triche and Jessye McDowell. The fest begins today and continues through Sunday. Prices are quite reasonable; visit www.cucalorus.org for more information. David Fellerath
