Triangle Jazz Orchestra
The ArtsCenterResurrecting tunes from the 1930s and ’40s, the Triangle Jazz Orchestra delivers swing slickly and smoothly. Liquid phrasing abounds in this big band, thanks to the jazz vocals of Donna Mayo, Jim McCann and Kristin Grill. More cool than blazing, trumpets, trombones and saxophones blend, soloists emerging casually from the steady stream as horn blasts shoot through the relaxed rhythm section. Sets include the syncopated exactitude of Benny Goodman, the bluesy energy of Count Basie and the classy experiments of Duke Ellington. Tonight’s performance kicks off the band’s plan to hold open rehearsals the first Wednesday of every month. Dancers are welcome at the free, two-hour show, and the music begins at 7:45 p.m. See www.artscenterlive.org. Andrew Ritchey
