Durham
National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and Tim’m T. West
B.N. Duke Auditorium, N.C. Central CampusTim’m T. West, an HIV-positive leader in the gay rap movement, will perform at N.C. Central University’s National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day event to spotlight rising HIV rates among young African Americans. West, a Duke alum and former Durham resident, will try to take on the “pink elephant in the room” that is homosexuality in hip hop while keeping it light and uplifting in his first solo performance here. Expect a clean and politically charged show, like Def Poetry Jam meets a Talib Kweli or Common concert. Juliana Hanson

West performs at 8 p.m. The event is free and features additional spoken word artists from NCCU, as well as a Q&A session.
