Black Lips and Gentleman Jesse
Cat’s CradleThose starry-eyed for guitar-pop that’s jingly, tingly and Brit(ish) view this bill as the Black Lips closing for Gentleman Jesse, not the latter opening for the former. Jesse Smith (who can also be found in the punk-rocking Carbonas) and His Men make like the Jam sweeping out the hookiest corners of the Stiff archives when they’re not hosting what sounds like a tribute to Rhino’s magnificent two-disc UK Pop set. That the quartet hails from Atlanta is merely a mistake of geography, but there’s no mistaking Smith’s musical geekdom: The group’s choice cover is the ska-pop nugget “I Get So Excited” from the Equals, the Eddy Grant-led originators of “Police on My Back.” Pay $10-$12 at 9 p.m. Rick Cornell
