Tooth, Black Skies, Colossus
Cat’s CradleThis free Cradle bill may not represent the best of what Triangle metal has to offer, but it does serve as a fine glimpse into the variety of loud that’s available here: Colossus worships Maiden and metal melodrama, building its songs on maximal mythological imagery, vocals that sound like comic strips and laser-etched guitar-monies. Both Black Skies and Tooth pull from the Sabbath and stoner stacks, crunching on chords like day-old junk food. Black Skies seems more tied to the dicta of the genre than Tooth, meaning its rangy influences and need for the unexpected cause it to cleave a progression at its stump and barrel down a new riff or rhythm. I’ve heard mixed reviews of the Cradle’s The Club is Open series, but this one sounds like a true cheap blast. Show starts at 9:15 p.m. Grayson Currin

Mando Saenz, Gary Jules
West End Wine BarGary Jules scored with his austere cover of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” on the Donnie Darko soundtrack and traffics in similarly understated songwriter pop with a dusty, ambling air. Like Jules, Mando Saenz’s pretty arrangements have a rustic air but grab with their dulcet, warming ambience like sunlight pushing into a darkened room. The show starts at 8 p.m. Chris Parker
