The Gaslight Anthem
Cat’s CradleFiery Jerseyites The Gaslight Anthem tend to get filed under punk. Yep, the energy’s there and the look-you-straight-in-the-eyes intensity. But the most punk thing that the quartet does is take its 100 or so influences, ranging from Springsteen and Petty to old soul records and even older books and movies, and wear them on their sleeves, pant legs and anywhere else one could possibly hang an influence. And without a whiff of apology or self-consciousness. The band’s debut, Sink or Swim, rolled along on waves of potential, but it didn’t prepare me for last year’s The ’59 Sound, a hooky, heartfelt elixir that made a 48-year-old feel half that age. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 day of, and the show starts at 8 p.m. Pela and Good Old War open. Rick Cornell
