The Pour HouseOn extended jam “Jabberwocky,” Greensboro quintet The Mantras repeatedly warns: “Don’t walk with Jabberwocky,” until it becomes as hypnotic and nonsensical as Lewis Carroll’s original poem. Repetition in lyrics and bass-drum grooves provides a platform for extended guitar solos and conga breaks. The band explores Caribbean, Indian, funk and other genres that pull you through its looking glass with the psychedelic veneer.
