Marvell Event CenterAt the CD release party for Durham metal sluggers Tooth, the crowd broke down into three dominant tiers: the hedonistic front row, doggedly facing off with the band in sweat-brow intensity; a maelstrom of slam dancers pitting themselves against each other like they were at some hardcore show 20 years ago; and the back wall, lined with folks either avoiding tier two or staying close to the beer coolers. It’s kind of how Tooth’s music separates, too. Between finite breaks of stare-down suspense and reclining moments of bliss, a fury of guitar clamor and epiglottis-eviscerating song lives, sandwiched.
