Celia Rivenbark
Quail Ridge BooksThough Celia Rivenbark is a force of nature not seen often in print, the closest comparison would be to Jeff Foxworthy: a never ending set of self-deprecating jokes about all things Southern. Just take a look at some of the chapter titles from her latest book of essays, Belle Weather: Mostly Sunny with a Chance of Scattered Hissy Fits: “Harry Potter Bitch-slaps Nancy Drew,” “Britney’s To-Do List: Pick Okra, Cover That Thing Up” and “Brownies and Men: They Both Have Nuts on ‘Em.”

The Wilmington author (and self described “Queen of Sassy, Expert on Trashy”) writes a syndicated newspaper column as well as her books that cover her adventures as wife, mother and Southern Belle. Her previous books, Bless Your Heart, Tramp and We’re Just Like You, Only Prettier, were both finalists for the James Thurber Prize for American Humor. She points out in her own press bio that David Sedaris beat her (“He wins everything.”), as well as Jon Stewart (“He and David Sedaris probably went out drinking afterwards. I’m sorry, did that sound bitter?”). Come see the firecracker in action at 7:30 p.m. Jessica Fuller
