UNC CAMPUSIn February when Nicholas Kristof spoke at N.C. State, the lecture hall was packed beyond capacity with an audience eager to hear the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner recount his experiences in Darfur. A columnist for The New York Times, Kristof is internationally recognized for his fearless reporting on the current genocide in Sudan. The Triangle welcomes him back tonight for a talk being held on the UNC campus. His free presentation is open to the public and will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in 111 Carroll Hall. LACUNA COIL, SHADOWS FALL
LINCOLN THEATRETwo progressive metal acts of sonic extremes meet in Raleigh: Italian sextet Lacuna Coil is all smoky, synth-haunted atmospheres and classical metal melodies cascading beneath the operatic airs of Cristina Scabbia. Massachusetts metal act Shadows Fall came up in death metal aping the Gothenburg, Sweden, sound with dynamic and tempo changes aplenty beneath screeching vocals. After scoring a Billboard Top 20 album with 2004’s The War Within, they jumped ship to Atlantic for Threads of Life. Tickets are $17-$20 for the 7 p.m. show. Chris Parker
