Chapel Hill
JESSE LACEY & KEVIN DEVINE
LOCAL 506This solo tour featuring Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey sold out at lightning speed across the country, an indication as to how far the Long Island emo-popsters have come in six years. On their third album, The Devil & God Are Ranging Inside Me, Brand Newtalented if overwroughtis thick, majestic and swooning, suggesting Billy Corgan and Conor Oberst collaborating for Drive Thru Records. Brooklyn singer-songwriter Kevin Devine’s clever confessional folk-rock’s earned Bright Eyes comparisons but is more a poor man’s Elliott Smith, even receiving a hand from Smith’s producer Rob Schnapf (XO, Figure 8) on last year’s major label debut, Put Your Ghost to Rest. The show starts at 8:15 p.m., but get there early to beg. Chris Parker
