INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS
VARIOUS LOCATIONSNo one can say that the Triangle doesn’t know how to celebrate Independence Day. There are some great events going on, so choose one or check them all out. Starting at 8 a.m. at Bond Park Waterfront (801 High House Road in Cary), enjoy tons of fun at the Independence Day Olde Time Celebration. The event kicks off with a parent-child fishing tournament (registration begins at 7:30 a.m.), then a parade in the park (decorate your bike, wagon, scooter or stroller starting at 9 a.m.), followed by a theatrical performance by Applause! Cary Youth Theatre. There will also be a doughnut eating contest, a watermelon seed spitting contest and many other family competitions. The celebration is free. For more info, call 469-4061. The North Carolina State Fairgrounds is also hosting a July 4th celebration. Join fellow North Carolinians at 3 p.m. (gates open at 2:30 p.m.) and enjoy carnival rides and games, food, a magic show, a karaoke show, pony rides, a car show and, of course, fireworks for free. Also, there will be live musical performances by Bluesville, Fettuccini Brothers, Michael Ken and Mighty Lester. The Eno River Association will host its 28th Annual Festival for the Eno beginning today at 10 a.m. The festival includes tours, workshops, storytelling, exhibits, readings and music.
