MELT BANANA
CAT’S CRADLETokyo’s Melt Banana has never slowed down to rubberneck a traffic accident. They don’t seem capable of pausing, their dark-garbed secret agents shooting grappling hook-notes and infrared guitars into the frantic rock-club night. It’s solidly punk in effect, and impressively thrilling in totality. With Calabi Yau, Hex Machine, Clang Quartet. Show at 9:15 p.m. for $12. Chris Toenes

STEVEN WRIGHT
CAROLINA THEATRE”You never know what you have until it’s gone. I wanted to know what I had, so I got rid of everything.” So reasons veteran comedian Steven Wright, known for his witty observations and non sequiturs. Named by Comedy Central as No. 23 in the list of 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time, the Academy Award-winning comedian, actor and writer will perform at the Carolina Theatre as part of the release tour of When Leaves Blow Away, his new DVD. In attempt to forestall losses during the theater’s summer renovations, the Carolina Theatre is hosting a “Do the ‘Wright’ Thing” fund-raising event prior to the performance that will include food, beer, wine, prizes and a silent auction. Package tickets for the fundraiser and performance are $90 (tickets are $29 and $32). For more info, visit www.carolinatheatre.org or call 560-3030. To read more on Wright, see this week’s A&E story.
