Lee Smith
McIntyre’s Fine BooksGet your fix of N.C. literature tonight when local author Lee Smith reads from her latest book On Agate Hill, set on a post-Civil War Hillsborough plantation. Just out in paperback, the novel was inspired by Alice Gerrard’s The Road to Agate Hill album, which Smith listened to while writing the tragic story, which follows an orphaned young girl who passively watches drama unfold from the war-torn plantation’s front porch. Smith has other readings this fall: Monday, Nov. 19, at Regulator Bookshop and Thursday, Dec. 6, at Quail Ridge Books and Music. Tonight’s reading starts at 7 p.m. Go to www.fearrington.com/village/mcintyres.asp for more info. Karlie Justus
