DUKE CAMPUSLet out your inner dork at Duke Screen Society’s screening of the Japanese film Train Man (Densha Otoko). Protagonist Otaku (literally, Japanese for “geek”) awkwardly feels his way through his first relationship with the help of a few million of his closest friends on Japan’s version of Internet instant messaging. THE RESERVOIRBettie and the Boys play straightforward guitar-and-keys rock, its mildly punk sneer sharpening the edges around a glam-rock base. It’s certainly surprising that Betty’s touring with Ponieheart, the solo muse of Pennsylvania’s Paul Fugazzotto II. Ponieheart folds fragility into skeletons of spare acoustic guitars and modest electronic beats, alternately letting feelings float as damaged little pop trinkets (“Night Time”) or implode into aggressively bitter gazes (“Red Telephone”).
