On Saturday, Sept. 13, Cary’s Amphitheatre at Regency Park will host local, regional and national performers at the all-day Celtic Festival, which will feature dance, food and a mix of Irish, Scottish and Welsh music. Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul (pictured left) headlines. The daughter of Irish immigrants, Ivers grew up in the Bronx, where she and Immigrant Soul were applauded by The New York Times for their marriage of Celtic and African diasporas; the Times also compared Ivers’ electrified fiddle-playing to that of Hendrix on guitar. Their recordings and live performances have furthered this nine-time All Ireland champion’s reputation as a musical legend and visionary. Ivers has performed with The Chieftains, Paula Cole, Patti Smith and Hall and Oates. Other performers include Black 47, Celtic Jam, Connie Dover, Kevin Parnell, Raleigh Scottish Country Dancers, Danny Tighe School of Irish Dance, Spirit of Appalachia and the NCSU Pipe Band.
