Who says classical music has to be stodgy? Eighth Blackbird (pictured), a contemporary sextet committed to performing the work of modern composers, continues to wow audiences and garner awards. The six Oberlin Conservatory graduates, currently ensemble-in-residence at Northwestern University, have continued to rack up kudos–from the Naumberg Chamber Music Award in 2000 to grants from such organizations as CMA and Meet the Composer. In addition, they hold master classes and are active in teaching young artists about contemporary music. The group will perform this Saturday, Feb. 9, 8 at NCSU’s Stewart Theater, located in the Talley Student Center. Call 515-1100 for details. —Angie Carlson
