LOCAL WILD WEEKEND
CAT'S CRADLEThis three-day, 15-band festival is the result of fortunate coincidence: Local bandleader Ben Davis was looking to host a welcome-students concert at the Cat's Cradle, and Cradle owner and longtime Piedmont Wildlife Center volunteer Frank Heath was looking to plan his annual PWC benefit. They merged forces with a strong lineup at bargain prices: Friday (8 p.m.) Shakermaker, Butterflies, The Strugglers, Dirty5Thirty, NonCanon; Saturday (7:30 pm.) Embarrassing Fruits, Big Fat Gap, Hobex, Transportation, Fin Fang Foom; Sunday (4 p.m.) Ships, Red Collar, David Karsten Daniels, Boxbomb, The Never, Roman Candle. Pay $5 each night or splurge for a $10 weekend pass. Grayson Currin

HANK AND MY HONKY TONK HEROES
TEMPLE THEATREThe New York Post says that Jason Petty doesn't just impersonate famed country singer Hank Williams as much as "[channel] his ghost." Since 1996, actor and singer Petty has been performing Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes, a revue he wrote about the life and times of the hillbilly Shakespeare, the man who penned much of the country music songbook before he expired in the back of a hired car at the age of 29. Petty has performed across the U.S., Canada and Europe, garnering awards, including a Village Voice Obie Award for "Outstanding Actor." The show runs Aug. 30-Sept. 30.
