MAYHEM HOLIDAY BLUEGRASS BASH
THE POUR HOUSERaleigh bluegrass band Old Habits oozes Appalachian charm, working in the occasional Sam Bush bounce among the spit-shined works of their forebears. But when the rock 'n' roll calls, the group turns electric as The Traveling Mayhem, their alter-ego. Tonight is a two-for-one deal with the band shaking hands with tradition before smashing it into pieces. The show starts at 8 p.m. for $5. Kathy Justice

A CHRISTMAS CAROL WITH ALLAN GURGANUS AND MICHAEL MALONE
LELAND AUCTION HOUSEBetween trying to avoid getting smashed at the office Christmas party and racing around to all of the other obligations of the season, consider catching two of the Triangle's best novelists do a dramatic reading of an obscure Charles Dickens tale. You know, the one with Scrooge and Tiny Tim. Gurganus and Malone will read the roles Thursday and tonight at Leland Little Auction House, 246 S. Nash St., beginning at 7:30 p.m. for $15.
