Gov. Beverly Perdue signed House Bill 80, which bans sweepstakes parlors in North Carolina. You can read the final ratified version of the bill here: H80v5.pdf The bill passed on July 7 by a 86-27 vote. Unless the video sweepstakes industry successfully sues the state, which it has threatened to do, the 932 parlors must close when the law goes into effect Dec. 1. There was no public ceremony for the bill signing.
