The congressional redistricting maps released last week continue to reshape predictions for the U.S. House. The Cook Political Report just announced a shift for NC races in an update to its House predictions. (chart here subscription required beyond that)
Said Cook editor David Wasserman:
The GOP plans to pack Democrats into just three of the state’s 13 districts: two majority black districts and a district anchored by the Triangle that might as well be majority PhD. As a result, we are shifting our ratings in four North Carolina districts.
Meanwhile, the changes are starting to sink in. Rep. Mike McIntyre, who lost Democratic voters thanks in part to what Wasserman called the “Fayetteville Finger” says he doesn’t much like the new plan. McIntyre has managed to repeatedly win in a tough district by underlining his independence. It should be no surprise that he’s now a firm “no” on raising the debt limit.
The congressional maps are likely to be the main source of fireworks at Thursday’s redistricting hearing, which start at 3 p.m. Information here and a place to leave comments on the planshere.
