Elfowl
Nightlight"Oh, my heart is a water balloon/ It'll do anything that you ask it to do," sings Mika Huvard, the Clayton-based, bedroom four-tracker known as Elfowl. Huvard generated some local enthusiasm last year with a batch of brilliant little songs for acoustic guitar and her paradoxically bold but chirpy voice, though she hasn't been on a Triangle stage much since. Tonight's return comes with a new batch of rudimentary recordings and they abound with good signs. (Her MySpace page is worth your time: www.myspace.com/ohelfowl.) She's augmented her approach with tape collage tinkering and multitracked vocals, but the core aestheticsteeling herself against emotional vulnerabilityremains. Huvard's now part of Greensboro label Duck Sauce Records, which throws this one-night label party with Tunnels Under the Citadel and My Majesty in Oxygen. The 9:30 p.m. show costs $5. Grayson Currin
