Meymandi Theatre at Murphey School AuditoriumThe second and final production of the Delta Boys and Burning Coal Theatre’s stage series “Wait ‘Til You See This!” is an appropriate piece, when considering the resonance of finality and the culmination of a theatrical career. The last play on the boards is The Cherry Orchard, the crowning piece and final production of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. Chekhov’s work is more than a century old, but a fresh audience will find new meaning in the play’s intricate look at money and finance in the Russian countryside as a fallen aristocrat returns home to her family’s estate just before its scheduled auction. With the housing market in shambles (and many formerly house-rich people now ruined), this production is timely and thought-provoking. Written as a comedy and first performed as a tragedy, a modern interpretation may end with tears rather than laughter.
