CHAPEL HILL
TENNIS AND THE MENNONITES
WETLANDS--Cartoonish as their name sounds, Tennis and the Mennonites (picture the adventures of the demure religious family learning the backhand ... and hilarity ensues) craft emotionally stark love songs. The Chapel Hill group's Wicked Man EP of last year was a taste of Jerstin Crosby's quivering vocal style, purposefully screwed up for the delivery of whatever proposed cathartic moment rears itself. DAR HE: THE LYNCHING OF EMMETT TILL
DEEP DISH THEATER--One week after Thom Pain bored us with everything a one-man show can't do, Mike Wiley impresses us with everything this show can, remarkably impersonating a series of people surrounding the 1955 atrocity--including the murderers themselves, who bragged about their deeds to Look magazine. The show runs Thursday through Sunday, June 25. Tickets are $10-$15; call 968-1515. --Byron Woods
