Carolina Ballet’s The Nutcracker
Memorial Auditorium, Progress Energy CenterAll across the world, little girls in tutus cut their teeth on The Nutcracker. The grownup women and men in the Carolina Ballet are surely no different, except that they’ve realized their childhood ambitions and are dancing this Christmas chestnut professionally.

This year, Carolina Ballet’s program began with two sold-out performances in Chapel Hill’s Memorial Hall and returned to Raleigh Friday, Dec. 19. It plays tonight and continues through Sunday, Dec. 28. Even if you’ve seen the production before, this is a good year to go again: The sour economy affects everyone, including nonprofit arts groups, who are rarely flush in the best of times.
