British Sea Power, The Rosebuds
Cat’s CradleBritish Sea Power’s live show incorporates local foliage, synchronized jumping jacks, plastic animals, human stacking and buckets of sweat. The Brighton band’s new LP, Do You Like Rock Music?, turns airy voiced tunes about the English countryside into a cacophony of baroque cathedral proportions, offering a fantastic adventure in Pixies 6-string dramatics with a pastoral lilt. The band’s last visit to the Triangle drew a meager crowd, but openers The Rosebuds should take care of that, hopefully treating a full house of friends and fans to new material. Hayes Carll
Berkeley CafeWhat do you do with a history degree? Hendrix College graduate Hayes Carll became a singer/ songwriter, going from history to stories of those bound to repeat it in song-bourne reflections on alcoholic dissipation, failed relationships or both (“Bad Liver and a Broken Heart” being said intersection). The Texas native follows in the country-folk tradition of John Prine and Terry Allen, mining a ground-level, working man’s perspective (“I Got a Gig”) and delivering witty, everyman tales (“She Left Me for Jesus”) on his fine third album, Trouble In Mind. Carll’s lighthearted and straightforward style is devoid of pretense, suggesting a good drinking buddy and a fine listener.
