David Hewson
Adam Cave GalleryMaps, photos and paintings tell us of the culture and communities of the isolated parts of the Peruvian jungle. David Hewson, a Pinehurst native, spent two years traveling to remote locations in the jungle to learn about these cultures. Intrigued by mythologies and holistic healing, and after a powerful experience with an Indian shaman who held a local healing ceremony, Hewson decided to follow him to Peru.
He lived in the Amazonian city of Iquitos, a community accessible only by water and air that was a prosperous center of commerce during the brief boom in harvesting natural rubber. Today, however, another precious resource threatens the culture of the region: oil. Hewson has been observing the multinational exploitation of the area, in addition to his artistic and holistic interests.
He discusses his experiences and shows slides at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are requested: Call 838-6692 or e-mail gallery@adamcavefineart.com. Kelly Behling
