CHELSEA–In what seems like a French New Wave version of Behind the Music, Maggie Cheung stars in Clean as a washed-up rocker chick who struggles to beat a heroin habit. When her boyfriend dies, Cheung begins a journey to self-respect that takes her to Vancouver and Paris. Both Tricky and Mazzy Star’s David Roback appear as themselves and play small but crucial roles. Clean is also showing at Galaxy Cinema in Cary. For times, see “Maggie’s pharm” in this week’s issue. FOUR EYED MONSTERS
GALAXY CINEMA–With its latest series, Undiscovered Gems, Galaxy Cinema continues to experiment with its programming and push its own envelope. As such, the theater purchased a dedicated download line to receive high-quality digital prints of films to play on its new Panasonic PT-D7700U digital projector. The docket for the series offers 2005’s best obscurities that faired well at festivals but failed to get distribution. This week’s Four Eyed Monsters is a low-budget exploration of two young filmmakers finding each other and meaning in life through that discovery. See the film at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $4.50-$7.50.
